Al was born on September 19, 1972 in Fairbanks, Alaska to Alan and Judy (Smalley) Haygood. Al lived his life to the fullest and was always down for an adventure. He had a sense of humor only some understood and was always looking to get a laugh. He was an active member of Local 150 and currently working for Sunbelt Rentals. When he wasn’t working you could find him doing the things he truly enjoyed. He loved all things outdoors, but especially fishing. If you knew Al you know he was never without a pole. Even when golfing he would stop and cast a line, sometimes passing through a hole so he could do so but not hold up golfers behind. If weather didn’t allow for fishing or golfing you could find him tinkering in the garage on the many projects he had or dreaming up a new one. He always made time for his family and friends when he was free. Whether it be enjoying a cocktail, motorcycle ride, concert, grilling out, watching his favorite Chicago sports teams, or simply just being together Al was happiest with his people around him. He was a beloved Father and those girls were his world, often showing pictures or sharing stories to anybody that would listen. If there is one thing he loved more than being a Dad, it was being Papa Al. He would light up seeing those boys and was always looking forward to the next time he would see them. His playful personality didn’t ever stop him from crawling around and really getting down on their level.
There are a million things that can be said about Al, but the only hope as you’re reading this is you are thinking of your own stories. Alan had memories with people from all walks of life Always hold those memories close and share with those around you. Most importantly, never pass up an adventure or opportunity to cast a line.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Cynthia Parrott; two daughters, Emily (Dalton) Gunier, Ashley (Michael) Bartling; his mother, Judy Haygood; two brothers, John (Lisa) Haygood, Joseph Haygood; a sister, Brittany Haygood; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and two grandsons.
Those that know Al, know family didn’t always mean blood, he leaves behind multiple brothers whom were near and dear to him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alan Haygood; grandparents John (Arlene) Smalley, Paul (Betty) Haygood; an uncle, Timothy Haygood; and a cousin, Sean Haygood.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
