James Samuel “Chico” Carrera, 71, of Marseilles, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4 at the funeral home with Rev. Shawn Saldano of the Marseilles United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.
Chico was born on April 1, 1955, in Ottawa, IL, to Samuel and Norma (Stewart) Carrera. On May 29, 1982, he married Lora Powell of Marseilles who survives.
He was employed as a Plumber and Pipefitter for Local 597 until his retirement. He was a diehard Chicago sports fan of the Bears, Sox, and Blackhawks. Chico enjoyed bowling, euchre, bocce ball, softball (NAB), fishing, and hunting. He especially loved his family, being a grandpa, and spending time with his dog, Max.
Chico is survived his wife, Lora; his son, Clint (Lexi Potochney) Carrera; his mother, Norma; his six grandchildren, Drake T.J. Engel, Aubrey Rose, Ella Marie, Trey James, Jaxon Liam, and Camden Robert Carrera; his brothers, Bob (Marcy) and Mike (Alice) Carrera; his sisters-in-law, Cindy (Steve) Decker and Sandy Sharp; and his brother-in-law, Robert (Elaine) Powell Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Samuel, and his daughter, Emily Engel.
