Jean Marie Upton, 94, of Marseilles, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at her home.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 14 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marseilles. A Mass of Christian burial will follow with Fr. Ryan Mattingly officiating. A private family burial will take place on a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, where she will be interred beside her husband, Ernie.
Jean was born on June 8, 1931, in Marseilles, IL, to John and Lauretta (Richardson) Bolatto. On July 29, 1950, she married Ernest Upton of Marseilles who preceded her in death in 2011.
Jean lived a full and happy life with many card games played with family and friends.
She is survived by her by her daughters, Kathleen (Nick) Strickland of Keyingham, England and Elaine Upton of Marseilles; her daughter-in-law, Lori Upton of Spring, TX; her four grandchildren, Lisa (Andrew) Heiberger, Charles (Nicole) Johnson, Katie Upton, and Jeffrey (Monica) Upton; three great-grandsons, Anthony and Marcus Johnson and Jonathan Upton; her brother, Donald (Jackie) Bolatto; and her sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Upton.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie; a brother, Jack; and her son, John.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to the Marseilles Nursing Service or the Marseilles Food Pantry.
The family is very thankful to the OSF Hospice Group, who provided kind and comforting care.
