Gustave Logan Sommer, 95, of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025 in Streator surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with Pastor Richard Ewing, officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa where Full Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 33 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Logan was born on November 12, 1930 in Marseilles to Gustave and Nuna (Morrison) Sommer. He worked at R&D Walter Farms in Grand Ridge. Logan was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He married Esther M. Reischauer on October 21, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Sommer, of Ottawa; his four children, Richard Sommer of Ottawa, Sue Clausen of Streator, Carol (Milt) Edmonds of Ottawa, and Roger (Michelle) Sommer of Peru; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gustave and Nuna Sommer; a daughter-in-law Leslie Sommer; a brother, Phil Sommer; and a sister, Edna Lorey.
Pallbearers will be Mike Durdan, Joe Durdan, Jake Smith, Jim Lacke, Shane Reed, and Darren Walter.
