Gerald L. “Jerry” Morey, 82, of Chillicothe, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Carle Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday, September 8 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Chapman of Village Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.
Jerry was born March 16, 1943, in Marseilles to James E. and Wilma (Woodin) Morey. On May 9, 1964, he married Dorothy Chapman, his wife for 61 years, who survives.
Jerry had many careers in his working life including as an auctioneer in the 1970s. He worked as a Hog Buyer most of his life, retiring from Jimmy Dean Foods in 2009. Jerry was a passionate golfer. He was a member of the Peoria Sandtrappers Golf League and acted as their treasurer. Jerry loved rooting for Michigan State University sports, particularly football, where he was a season ticket holder for over 30 years (Go Green!). More importantly, Jerry loved sharing a good conversation, stories, a laugh or two, and a good meal with family, friends, and his golfing buddies.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his two sons and their wives, Randy (Carol Miller) Morey and Steve (Becky) Morey; his two grandsons, James and Jeff Morey; his brother, Tim (Rita) Morey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
