Born on December 6, 1940, in Ottawa, Illinois, Joe was the son of Joseph and Hilda (née Yenne) McMahon. He grew up in Ottawa and graduated from Marquette High School with the Class of 1959.
On August 18, 1963, Joe married the love of his life, Diane Dougherty, at St. Mary’s of the Fields Church in Grand Ridge, Illinois.
Joe spent his professional life working for Hills Bros Coffee, Illinois Fruit and Produce, and Indiana Sugars. His strong work ethic was evident in his daily commute to Chicago, where he took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.
Joe was a longstanding member of St. Columba Church. Outside of work, he was best known for his remarkable culinary talents. Whether preparing a family dinner or hosting friends, Joe delighted in sharing meals that brought people together. His cooking was more than food- it was his expression of love.
He is survived by his son, Tim McMahon; his daughter, Molly Mann (Jeff); and his beloved grandchildren, Joseph McMahon, John Slater Mann, and Thomas Mann. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 54 years, Diane.
Memorials in Joe’s honor may be directed to Marquette Academy or St. Columba Church.
