Anna Mae Sommer, 98, of Marseilles, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Ottawa Pavilion.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chuck Sampson of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.
Anna Mae was born on June 29, 1926, in Ottawa, to Terence and Ann (Richie) Zellers. On October 10, 1948, she married Henry Sommer of Marseilles who preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a farm wife, homemaker, babysat for many kids, and was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles. She found joy in the simple pleasures – spending time with her beloved dog, reading a good book, solving a crossword puzzle, or crocheting. Her hands were rarely still, always creating something thoughtful for those she loved. Above all, she poured her heart into her grandkids and the children she watched, who were the light of her life. Her presence was a steady comfort, guiding hand, and her love a lasting gift that will be deeply missed.
Anna is survived by her son, Dave Sommer; two granddaughters, Sarah Hefler and Ashley (Joe) Cook; two great grandchildren, Nora Mae Cook and Henry Cook; sister-in-law, June Zellers; former daughter-in-law, Lynette Sommer; and the Parks family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her daughter, Carol Lynn Barra; three brothers, William, George, and Ted; and one sister, Mary Zellers.
Pallbearers will be Joe and Henry Cook, Nick and Sterling Parks, Tim Smith, and Tim Barra. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Smith and Mike Weiss.
