Robert “Bob” Gibson, 86, of Seneca, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Morris Hospital.
Bob was born March 7, 1939, in Ottawa, IL, to Sterling and Nola (Bruce) Gibson. He married the love of his life, Donna Monson, on July 2, 1961 in Morris, IL. Together they have shared 63 years of marriage.
Bob proudly served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in South America. A dedicated and hardworking man, he spent his career at Western Electric and Illinois Nitrogen before retiring from Caterpillar. Even in retirement, he never sat still – there was always a project to tackle, and he took great pride in renovating his home and maintaining his yard.
With a sharp wit and an easygoing nature, Bob had a way of making everyone feel at ease. He loved striking up conversations, often sharing laughs and stories over coffee with friends at the local BP gas station. Above all, he was a devoted family man who cherished time with his loved ones.
Bob is survived by his wife, Donna Gibson; his children, Jeff (Carolyn) Gibson and Randy (Kristy) Gibson; his grandchildren, David Gibson, Ashley (Michael) Gibson-Wilson, Amy (Michael) Schweiss, and Andy Gibson; and his great-grandchildren, Mallex and Jaxon Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Nola, and his brother, Bruce Gibson.
The family will receive friends at Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral services at 4 p.m. Cremation rights have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in honor of Bob may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
