The Illinois Department of Agriculture has secured a $7 million USDA grant to launch the Infield Conservation for Operationalizing Vital Ecosystem Resilience (I-COVER) program, aimed at supporting farmers and landowners adopting or refining early cover crop practices. Funded through the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service Regional Conservation Partnership Program, I-COVER will run for three years starting in 2025, offering cost-share and financial incentives. Pre-enrollment opens today, with applications accepted beginning March 3rd on a first-come, first-served basis, prioritizing the first applicant in each county. The program’s continuation depends on federal funding availability. A link is in this news story at 1430wcmy.com – https://agr.illinois.gov/resources/landwater/i-cover.html
