Ann (McGinnis) Byers, 91, of Ottawa, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ottawa, with Msgr. Mark Merdian, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 on Tuesday, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Ann was born on December 29, 1933 in Mendota, IL to Dan & Ann (McGraw) McGinnis. She graduated from Marquette High School.
She married Francis (Sonny) Byers on September 18, 1950. They lived in Ottawa for many years before moving to Florida to spend time with their son Jim and granddaughter Christine.
Ann cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The joy she found from spending time with her family was one Ann’s favorite things.
She loved playing cards, traveling and doing crossword puzzles. Ann was an avid Notre Dame football fan having been to many games and always making it a point to watch them on TV.
She will be remembered as a lady with a smile and a quick wit. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. And stories will be told for years to come of times spent with Ann.
She is survived by her son Jim (Deb) Byers of FL, granddaughter Christine (Tony) Abella of FL, step-granddaughter Kelly Forgatch of FL, great grandchildren Isabella & Angelica Abella, and step-grandchildren Jada Dittmyre, Brook & Brennan Forgatch. Her brothers Jim (Alice) McGinnis, Dan (Antionette) McGinnis, Ed (Rosemary) McGinnis and sister-in-law Barb McGinnis. And more nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, and great-great nieces & nephews than there are to count.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dan & Ann McGinnis, her husband Francis (Sonny) Byers, a daughter Jeanne Byers, her brother Tom McGinnis, her sister Mary (Bob) Whren, her step-grandson Brad Dittmyre and her nephews Dan Whren and Robb McGinnis
