Phyllis R. Riveland, 97, of Serena

Phyllis R. Riveland, 97, of Serena, IL passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the LaSalle County nursing home in Ottawa, IL surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 8, 1927 in Northville Township, IL the daughter of George and Helen (Grandgeorge) Shales. She married Robert Riveland on March 19, 1949 in Aurora, IL. She was a member of Serena United Methodist Church. Robert and Phyllis farmed for several years in the Serena area. Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for her husband at Riveland Electric Heating & Cooling for many years. She enjoyed her large garden and sharing everything that came out of it. Most of all she enjoyed her family  but especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Durbin of Peoria Heights; her son, Ronald Riveland of Serena; IL; four grandchildren, Jake (Amy) Durbin, Randy (Trista) Riveland, Ryan (Callie) Riveland, Alex (Kelsey) Riveland; seven great-grandchildren, Emma Durbin, Ryder, Addysen and Kinzlee Riveland, Logan Riveland, Lilly and Arlo Riveland as well as two nephews, Bruce and Scott and one niece, Candy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Donna L. Smith; one son-in-law, John Durbin and  her step-father, Leonard Schmidt.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:30 a.m.  the funeral home with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge in Sandwich, IL. Memorials may be directed to Serena United Methodist Church, Open Door, the Serena Lion’s Club, Serena Fire Department or the charity of one’s choice.
