The City of Ottawa says the parking lot on the south side of the 200 block of West Main Street, also known as Lot G, will be closed today, starting at 08:00 am for the day for the installation of the new mural on the east side of the building at 229 West Main Street. Also, the 200 block of West Main Street and the east-west alley to the south will have barricades.

The LaSalle County Health Department reports mosquitoes collected late last week in Marseilles have tested positive for the West Nile virus. This is the second confirmed case of West Nile virus activity in La Salle County this year. The first was in May when a robin collected in Somonauk tested positive for the virus. The virus is obtained by mosquitoes when they feed on infected birds like crows, bluejays, and robins. If you notice any of these birds appearing sick or dying, please contact the health department. Mosquitoes are capable of transmitting the virus to humans. Common symptoms include fever, nausea, headaches, and muscle aches. It’s important to note that four out of five people infected won’t show any symptoms at all.

La Salle police reported that on Thursday, two boys heavily damaged the bathrooms on the south side of Hegeler Park. The 13-year-old boys were identified on Friday afternoon through video surveillance. The department will be sending charges to the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s Office for felony criminal damage to property. The La Salle Police Department received assistance from the La Salle Elementary District in the investigation, using surveillance and identification methods. The police stated that this kind of behavior would not be tolerated in La Salle.

A 30-year-old Streator woman has a charge of driving on a suspended license. Synthia T. Miles was stopped by Ottawa Police Monday at Columbus and Jones Streets.

32-year-old Moniecea D. Brooks of Pulaski, Arkansas, was apprehended by Ottawa Police Tuesday in the 1400 block of Kansas Street on an out-of-state warrant as a fugitive from justice.

A man from Mendota was arrested for stalking and disorderly conduct on Saturday afternoon at an address on Fourth Avenue. Thirty-one-year-old Conner Carreon was taken to the La Salle County Jail. Additionally, on Monday afternoon, Mendota officers stopped to assist with a broken-down vehicle at the intersection of Washington Street and 14th Avenue. After investigating, police arrested Kareena Harrison of Mendota, who had a warrant for failing to appear in court in Kane County to answer to a charge of driving with a revoked registration. She was also taken to the La Salle County Jail.

31-year-old Matthew Manning was picked up by Ottawa Police Tuesday on a failure to appear warrant out of Kendall County on a charge of driving on a suspended license. Manning was taken into custody in the 1400 block of Dakota Drive.

A 64-year-old Ottawa woman has citations for driving under the influence, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and failure to signal, after an Ottawa Police traffic stop in the 1000 block of Fulton Street Tuesday.

The La Salle County Grand Jury issued several indictments Tuesday. 33-year-old Tyshawn Doyle from Riverdale is facing charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and armed habitual criminal for allegedly shooting another man in July. The victim survived, and Doyle is currently in custody at the La Salle County Jail. 35-year-old Nicholas Milby of La Salle is charged as an armed habitual criminal and with dealing cannabis. Milby was arrested on Labor Day and is also being held in the La Salle County Jail. 36-year-old Tania Torres-Magana of Streator is facing two counts of residential burglary. 34-year-old John Znaniecki of Ottawa has been indicted on three counts of burglary related to vehicle break-ins reported in Ottawa. 27-year-old Hannah Barnes of Spring Valley is facing two felony counts of theft, accused of stealing from a fellow employee at Denny’s in LaSalle. And, 24-year-old Edward Hardison, Jr. of La Moille is charged with two felony counts of deceptive practice for allegedly using bad checks twice in Ottawa.

John Deere is agreeing to pay nearly ten million dollars to resolve charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC accuses the Moline-based agricultural manufacturer of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for bribes paid by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Wirtgen Thailand. The SEC says from at least late 2017 through 2020, Wirtgen Thailand employees bribed Thai government officials to win multiple government contracts and also bribed employees of a private company to win sales to that company.

The Community Food Basket of Ottawa, in collaboration with the River Bend Food Bank, will host the monthly drive-through food pantry event on Saturday morning on the west side of the OSF St. Elizabeth Hospital parking garage. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with food distribution from 10:00 until 11:30. Volunteers will be on hand to load food items into vehicles.

Gloria Antoinette Sigler, 98, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, September 7th, at LaSalle County Nursing Home. Visitation will be Friday, September, 13th, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Ottawa Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial for Gloria Antoinette Sigler will be at 10:30 am on Friday, at St. Francis of Assisi Church. The entombment for Gloria Antoinette Sigler will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Phyllis Joan Williams 78 of Ottawa passed away peacefully on September 6th. A visitation will be held at Ottawa Funeral Home on September 14th from 10-12 PM. The funeral ceremony for Phyllis Joan Williams will follow at noon at the funeral home. The burial will immediately follow at St. Columba Cemetery.

Dustin Lee Brewer passed away unexpectedly on September 8th, at the age of 45. A visitation for Dustin Lee Brewer will be held on Sunday, September 15th, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A memorial service for Dustin Lee Brewer will take place at 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

The Chicago White Sox had just five hits during a 5-0 loss to the Cleveland Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Southsiders trailed by just one before giving up three runs in the top of the sixth. Jonathan Cannon was charged with his tenth loss after giving up three runs on seven hits in five-and-a-third innings. The Sox remain in last place in the AL Central with a 33-and-113 record. Davis Martin starts for Chicago against Cleveland this afternoon with a 12:30 pm pre-game.

Chicago’s 5-0 defeat last night to the Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field was the club’s franchise-record 14th straight home loss. The Sox are currently 33-113 overall. They are now seven losses away from the 1962 Mets’ record of 120 losses with 16 games remaining on the schedule.

The Chicago Cubs rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth during a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The Northsiders trailed by two entering the inning before Seiya Suzuki hit a two-run, game-tying single. Suzuki scored the go-ahead run on an error. Shota Imanaga earned his 13th win after giving up three runs on seven hits in seven innings, while Porter Hodge picked up his fifth save. Chicago is just four games behind the Mets and the Braves for the final NL Wild Card spot at 75-and-70. Jordan Wicks starts for the Cubs against the Dodgers tonight.

The Chicago Bears may be in the market for a new kick returner. The team tried out return man David Wallis at Halas Hall yesterday. Wallis is an undrafted free agent who spent time with the Patriots during training camp, and he had a 53-yard return during the preseason. The Bears visit the Texans on Sunday.

The Chicago Sky go for their third win in a row when they host the Washington Mystics at Wintrust Arena tonight. The Sky are coming off a 92-77 win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday. Chicago is in eighth place in the WNBA with a 13-and-22 record. Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00 PM.
