Doris “June” (Peterson) Freebairn, 98, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the Pavilion of Ottawa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Waltham Presbyterian Church, Utica with Rev. Joel Stevenor, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Waltham Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to the funeral services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa.
Doris was born on June 7, 1926 in Ransom to Herman and Pauline (Kleinmaier) Peterson. She graduated Seneca High School in 1944. Doris married Thomas Freebairn on September 14, 1946. She made her home on the family farm in Waltham Township, north of Utica for more than 65 years. She truly assisted her husband Tom in the entire farming operation. Doris was a member of the Waltham Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women’s Association, Illinois Valley Women’s Club, a 50-year member of the Waltham Home Extension, La Salle County Farm Bureau, La Salle Rotary – A Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, and a Benefactor to Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She also belonged to a 500 Card Club for over 60 years as well as a Variety Card Club.
She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy (Donley) Franz of Plano, Linda (James) Riebe of Morris, Bonnie (Thomas) Walsh of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Charles) Hodson, Jennifer (Matt) Borrowman, Jacob (Beth) Riebe, Matthew (Carrie) Riebe, John (Emily) Walsh, Kevin Walsh, Jacqueline Walsh; 8 great-grandchildren, Megan Shears, Riley Borrowman, Emily Riebe, Brayden Borrowman, Madison Riebe, Jillian Riebe, Ethan Riebe and Harper Walsh; a brother, Stephen (Jean) Peterson of Morris; many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Anna Jean Stachowiak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Pauline Peterson; and her husband, Thomas Freebairn on September 17, 2008.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Riebe, Matthew Riebe, John Walsh, Kevin Walsh, Matt Borrowman and Charles Hodson.
