Lyle W. Hathorn, 97, of Ottawa, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Fox River Lutheran Church, in Sheridan. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at with Rev. Kevin Garner, Pastor officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Lyle was born in Earlville on November 9, 1926 to Merwin and Minnie (Anderson) Hathorn. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He earned his B.S. in Accounting from Bradley University and later worked as the business manager of the Daily Times, for many years. Lyle married Ellen McGill on July 9, 2005 at Grace Baptist Church in Ottawa. He was a member of Fox River Lutheran Church. Lyle loved to travel, especially to the Rocky Mountains. He enjoyed family, church, driving, and helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hathorn, of Ottawa; two daughters, Vicki (David) Bennett, of Normal, Lori (Dennis) Brown, of LaSalle, and step daughter, Wendy (Victor) Arceo, of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Dava (Nick) Lamprecht, Doug (Kari) Bennett, Kyle (Amanda) Brown, and Kevin (Bekah) Brown; step grandson, Geoff McGill; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Hathorn; a brother, Merle Hathorn; and a sister, Lois Hall.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Brown, Kevin Brown, Doug Bennett, Geoff McGill, Don Hendrickson, and Rich Hendron.
Memorials may be directed to Fox River Lutheran Church or Samaritan’s Purse.
