The iconic Streetscape Reflections mural on 700 LaSalle Street, a beloved symbol of Ottawa’s history and community spirit, is set to be removed due to severe deterioration. Experts have determined that the mural, which was commissioned two decades ago and has since become a cherished landmark, has reached the end of its lifespan and now poses safety risks. Despite its artistic and historical significance, the mural’s condition has deteriorated to the point of being irreparable. In response, the building owner plans to commission a new mural to continue enhancing the area’s aesthetic appeal and to celebrate the vibrant community spirit of Ottawa. Mayor Robert Hasty acknowledged the mural’s sentimental value and encouraged those with loved ones featured in it to contact Tami Koppen at City Hall, as efforts will be made to preserve salvaged pieces. The city eagerly anticipates the unveiling of the new mural, which will reflect Ottawa’s evolving character and continue to serve as a source of pride for the community.
