John R. “Slim” Sipula, 57, of Ottawa, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his home.

Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral home in Ottawa.

John was born on November 22, 1966 in Ottawa to John L. and Barbara Ann (Baldridge) Sipula. He married Susan Godwin on February 12, 1994 in Seneca, IL. Slim was a life-long resident of Ottawa, where he spent 30 years as the superintendent at Pine Hills Golf Course. He had an amazing mind when it came to dates and numbers; being able to recall specific golf shots, scores and dates from decades in the past. After the sale of the golf course, he spent 12 years working as a gaming tech for JJ Ventures. He was a life-long fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, regardless of the city they called home. His passion for music led to a collection of music that is second to none. John and his wife Susan were dog lovers and over the years rescued many dogs. Currently they have two dogs, Maze and Molly.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his father, John; two sisters Carolyn (Dave) Buckingham and Kathy (Carl) Smith both of Ottawa; a brother Jacob Sipula of Ottawa; three nieces Heather (Troy) Chapman, Sadie Neumann, and Kalie (Hunter) Hyde; and a great-niece Ellawyn Thorson.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials may be directed to IVAR or Pet Project.
