On June 28 at 11:52 p.m. LaSalle County Deputies conducted a traffic stop at N. 45th Rd. and E. 20th Rod. in Adams Township. 33-year-old Christopher Klemm of Leland was then cited for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

A LaSalle woman was arrested on a domestic battery charge yesterday. Ottawa Police took 33-year-old Sarah A. Burgh into custody.

Peru Police arrested 29-year-old Kelsey L. Ott of Spring Valley for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sunday at around 2 a.m. Ott was later released with a mandatory court date and additional citations for improper lane usage and speeding.

Peru Police arrested a man in the 1000 block of Monks Ave. Saturday evening on a domestic battery charge. 49-year-old Eric C. Hoscheid was charged with a non-traffic citation and domestic battery. He was taken to the LaSalle County Jail.

Governor Pritzker is reacting to former President Trump’s partial victory in the Supreme Court.  The Justices ruled 6-3 that Trump has limited immunity in the federal election interference case for acts he took while in office.  Pritzker released a statement saying no one, even a president, ought to be above the law, but the Supreme Court left open that possibility.  The governor said when Trump tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election, it wasn’t the official act of a president, but rather the act of a narcissist attempting to overthrow our democracy to cling to power.

Democrats and Republicans are trying to remove third-party and independent presidential candidates from Illinois’ November ballot.  Democrats are challenging petitions filed by the presidential campaigns of Robert F. Kennedy Junior and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.  The GOP has filed challenges against the Constitution Party candidate Randall Terry and a placeholder for the Libertarian Party.  If the challenges are successful, President Biden and former President Donald Trump would be the only names on Illinois’ general election presidential ballot.

Illinois is entering a project partnership agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of Michigan.  The agreement allows for the construction of the more than one-billion-dollar Brandon Road Interbasin Project on the Illinois River near Joliet.  When completed, the project is designed to prevent the potential devastation of the Great Lakes ecosystem by invasive carp accessing the Great Lakes from the Illinois River.

A high-level recruit is de-committing from Illinois men’s basketball.  Joliet native Jeremiah Fears announced he had de-committed from the Fighting Illini on social media.  The six-foot-three guard is a four-star prospect in the class of 2025, however, he is considering reclassifying to the 2024 class.  Fears played at Compass Prep in Arizona last season after transferring from Joliet West.

Rose Marie (Widmayer) Fredericks, 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 26th, at OSF St Elizabeth Hospital.  Funeral services for Rose Marie (Widmayer) Fredericks will be held TODAY, at 10 am at Ottawa Funeral Home she will be laid to rest in the Ottawa Avenue Cemetery.

Russell James Martin of Bradenton, Florida passed away Friday, June 14th, at 87. A visitation for Russell James Martin will be held on Friday, July 5th, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial for Russell James Martin will be at 10:00 am, and burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca.

The Chicago Cubs will try to get back in the win column when they host the Philadelphia Phillies at Wrigley Field tonight. The Cubs just lost to the Brewers 7-1 on Sunday and remain in fifth place in the NL Central at 39-and-46. Hayden Wesneski starts for the Northsiders tonight. The first pitch is at 7:05 PM.

The Chicago Sky aims to avoid a three-game losing streak when they visit the Atlanta Dream at the Gateway Center tonight. Chicago is coming off a 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, but Angel Reese recorded her tenth-straight double-double in the loss, setting a new WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles. The Sky are in ninth place in the WNBA at 6-and-11. Tonight’s game tips off at 6:00 PM.

The Chicago Blackhawks had a busy first day of free agency yesterday. The team signed eight free agents to kick off the offseason yesterday. The Hawks brought on former Maple Leafs forward Tyler Bertuzzi with a four-year contract worth five-and-a-half million annually. Chicago also re-signed forward Teuvo Teravainen on a three-year deal. The Blackhawks rounded out the day by inking forwards Pat Maroon, Craig Smith, and Joey Anderson, defensemen Alec Martinez and TJ Brodie, and goaltender Laurent Brossoit.

Former Blackhawks Staff Get Reinstated By NHL (Undated) — A trio of former Chicago Blackhawks personnel are able to return to the NHL. The league reinstated Stan Bowman, Al MacIsaac, and Joel Quenneville yesterday. The three were banned from the league in October of 2021 after the NHL concluded that the Blackhawks mishandled sexual assault reports under their leadership in 2010 Team officials didn’t want to punish former video coach Brad Aldrich after he allegedly assaulted player Kyle Beach, reasoning that a disruption could compromise the team’s chance at the Stanley Cup. Bowman, MacIsaac, and Quenneville can begin looking for employment in the league immediately.

The Chicago Bulls are bolstering their frontcourt. The team signed center Jalen Smith to a three-year contract worth 27 million dollars yesterday. The former Pacer averaged nearly ten points and five-and-a-half rebounds per game in Indiana last season. In other team news, the Sun-Times is reporting that DeMar DeRozan will not consider returning to the Bulls after the team traded for Josh Giddey last month.
