The identity of the person who died from being hit by a train in Marseilles has been released. The LaSalle County Coroner’s office says 52-year-old Brad Bukowski was the victim. The report to Marseilles Police around Midnight Monday sent first responders to the location in the 100 block of Washington Street. An investigation into the death continues.

The Peru Police Department announced the temporary parking restrictions for the July 3rd Fireworks display. Barricades will be set up at the intersections of Water and Plain Streets and Putnam and Water Streets. No traffic will be permitted on Water Street between Plain and Putnam. Traffic will not be permitted southbound on Pike St. from Market St. as well as Putnam St. South of first after 7:30 pm which means no traffic except for emergency vehicles will be allowed on Water St. Special attention will also be paid to Putnam Street. It will be posted No Parking on either side and violators will be ticketed and towed. Also, individuals that deface, destroy or remove temporary parking signs will be prosecuted. The restrictions will go into effect at 5 p.m. on July 3 and will remain in effect until the fireworks have concluded. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed away at the owner’s expense. There will be no parking across from the old electric plant which is where the family area will be located.

Chicago traffic has been worse since the pandemic. A report conducted by mobility analytics firm Inrix also says that the Windy City ranks as one of the most congested cities in the country, second only to New York City. Chicago traffic was up 18 percent over 2019 levels. Inrix says the average driver spent 96 hours in congestion on expressways and local roads last year.

IVCC’s Welding Department is hosting a welding information and registration session immediately following the college’s open house on July 17. The welding session will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in CTC-124 and is open to students interested in registering for an 8-week or 14-week fall course. No previous welding experience is necessary, and instructors work to find the best fit for students at whatever stage they enter the program, according to Program Coordinator Theresa Molln. All new welding students must register for the program through a welding information session. The Starved Rock Country Community Foundation awarded over $37,000 in scholarships to 12 students at the organization’s annual Scholarship Reception in Ottawa. Scholarships were awarded to students who study elementary education, aviation, biochemistry, engineering, culinary arts, business, exercise science, computer science and sports psychology.

Illinois is launching a new state Department of Early Childhood.  Governor Pritzker signed a measure yesterday that establishes the new state agency.  The agency will focus exclusively on early childhood programs and services for young children, improving equity and accessibility for families and caregivers.  Currently, youth services are housed in three separate agencies, including the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Two new state-supported shelters are beginning to serve migrants in Chicago.  One is located near Midway Airport, and the other will be in Hyde Park. The Hyde Park shelter is a former hotel shelter that was previously used to quarantine new arrivals from measles.  Construction of the Midway Shelter is underway at a former hotel on the Southwest side.  The plan is to begin moving in families in July.  The two new locations bring the total number of state-funded shelters in Chicago to three, with a combined capacity of 2,000 people.

The Bulls could be adding a new player tonight in the NBA Draft.  Chicago currently has the 11th pick.  The draft takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are breaking WNBA viewership records yet again.  This past Sunday’s game on ESPN between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky featuring the two rookie sensations drew the biggest audience for a WNBA game on any network in 23 years.  The game drew an average audience of 2.3 million viewers, with viewership peaking at 3.3 million.  The June 16th game between the Fever and Sky previously broke the same record.  Clark and Reese won’t face each other again until August 30.

White Sox Fall To Dodgers

The Chicago White Sox are on a three-game losing streak following a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Guaranteed Rate Field.  The White Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-1 lead, but Los Angeles tied it up in the third and took the lead on a Shohei Ohtani single in the fourth.  Andrew Benintendi homered in the losing effort, while Chris Flexen was charged with his seventh loss after surrendering four runs on six hits in five-and-two-thirds innings.  The Southsiders remain in last place in the AL Central at 21-and-60.  They send Erick Fedde to the mound against the Dodgers tonight.

Cubs Lose To Giants

The Chicago Cubs had just four hits during a 5-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park yesterday.  The Cubs were down by just a run in the eighth when the Giants put together a three-run frame.  Kyle Hendricks was charged with his fifth loss after allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings.  The Northsiders dropped to fourth place in the NL Central with a 37-and-43 record.  The Cubs take on the Giants again tonight.

Former Blackhawks F Roenick Makes Hall Of Fame

A former Blackhawks star is heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Jeremy Roenick was one of seven members named to the 2024 class yesterday.  Roenick spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career with Chicago from 1988 until 1996.  He had 267 goals and 329 assists in 524 games with the Hawks.  Roenick will be inducted into the Hall on November 11th.
