21-year-old Logan Petre of Marseilles appeared in LaSalle County Court Monday and has been charged with murdering his father, 54-year-old Leo Petre in a Marseilles residence Saturday. LaSalle County State’s Attorney Joe Navarro filed three first-degree murder charges, accusing the younger Petre of hitting his father in the head along with strangling him. Prosecutors state that during questioning, he did not deny beating and strangling his father to death. Marseilles Police, according to prosecutors, were called to the 800 block of Opal St. in Marseilles last Friday night where Logan Petre was drunk and causing a disturbance. At that time, his father, Leo, told Marseilles Police he would handle the situation. State’s Attorney Navarro said in court Monday that Marseilles Police were back at the northside Marseilles home four hours later to investigate the report of a man being found unresponsive. Logan Petre has LaSalle County cases pending for trespassing, home invasion, and aggravated battery dating back to June 2023. Logan Petre has a detention hearing on June 26 after his defense requested time to review evidence before the court decides whether Petre should be held in custody awaiting his murder trial.
