Nancy Sovern Peffley, 90, of Ottawa

Nancy Sovern Peffley, 90, of Ottawa passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Born August 1, 1933, in Lafayette, Indiana she was the daughter of William M. and Ruth C. (Swoverland) Sovern. She graduated from Goshen High School, Goshen Indiana in 1951 and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri graduating in 1953 with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts.

She married Harold Vincent Peffley on December 26, 1955. Worked for the LaSalle County Housing Authority, the LaSalle County Extension Service and Ottawa Township High School as a Teacher’s Aide assisting with the students of migrant workers and in office administration. She was an active leader in Cub and Boy Scouts. Nancy served on the District’s Executive Counsel and received the Silver Fawn award for her many years of dedicated service. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church for over 60 years. Nancy was an avid quilter and bridge player, but her passion in life was travel having visited all 50 states, 6 continents and over 100 countries.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, H. Vincent Peffley and her three sons, William Peffley (Laura) of Springfield, Illinois; Thomas Peffley (Julie) of Ottawa, Illinois; and David Peffley (Robyn) of Zuni, Virginia, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in July. Interment will be in the future at Violett Cemetery in Goshen, Indiana.
