Streator Police are not providing the name of a motorcycle driver who died in an accident Saturday night after a pursuit by a Streator Police officer. The report indicates the officer observed the motorcycle at Livingston and Powell Streets as having no working taillights. The motorcyclist attempted to flee and lost control of the vehicle at Main and Illinois Street and was ejected. The motorcycle driver was reportedly airlifted to a Peoria hospital and died there.

The Illinois Senate is signing off on a 53-billion-dollar budget plan. The Democrat-controlled Senate voted last night to approve the spending plan, which largely mirrors Governor Pritzker’s budget proposal. The budget does, however, exceed the governor’s initial proposal by 400 million dollars and includes cost-of-living pay raises for lawmakers. The budget includes over $ 1 billion in new taxes. The bill now heads to the Illinois House, which could take it up this week.

Governor Pritzker is applauding state lawmakers for passing the Healthcare Protection Act. The Illinois House passed the health insurance reform bill on Saturday. The measure would ban step therapy and prior authorization for crisis mental health care, improve network adequacy, ban junk insurance plans, and end unchecked rate increases for large group insurance companies.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is praising lawmakers for passing legislation regarding child pornography. The Illinois Senate approved a measure that would clarify that the state’s child pornography laws apply to images and videos created by artificial intelligence technology. Raoul is encouraging Governor Pritzker to sign the measure.

Illinois lawmakers don’t plan to consider funding for Bears and White Sox stadiums during this legislative session. State Senator Bill Cunningham says there will be no action on the Bear’s request for two billion dollars for the planned lakefront domed arena the team proposed in April. He adds that there will be no movement on requests for public funding by the Sox for their proposed new stadium in the South Loop. The spring session ends on Friday.

Rehearsals begin this week for the Ottawa Pride Choir in preparation for a performance on Saturday, June 8th at 1:00 p.m. on the Jordan Block stage. Rehearsal times at Open Table Church are this Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30, next Wednesday, June 5th from 7:00 to 8:30, and then on the morning of June 8th at 11:30. All singers are welcome. 36-year-old Sarah M. Grewer of Marseilles was arrested at the new Ottawa YMCA facility Thursday on charges of criminal trespass, obstructing and resisting a police officer, and aggravated battery to a peace officer.

A motorcycle accident Saturday night after 9:30 resulted in injuries to a Paw Paw man. LaSalle County Deputies say 25-year-old Jacob Misukanis was northbound on East 10th Road when his motorcycle went into a ditch. He was ejected and the motorcycle slid through the intersection with North 48th Road and ended up in a cornfield. Misukanis was cited for a driver’s license classification violation and was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released with a notice to appear in court.

26-year-old Ismael J. Guzman Fonseca of Mendota was arrested by Mendota Police at 1st Avenue and 5th Street late Saturday night on an outstanding warrant from Lee County for contempt non-payment as well as a traffic citation for driving on a suspended license. After posting a bond on the Lee County charge, Fonseca was released with court dates in both LaSalle and Lee Counties.

Marissa L. Majercin of Streator was arrested by Streator Police Sunday afternoon in the 300 block of Bronson Street. She was charged with domestic battery and was taken to the LaSalle County Jail.

28-year-old Joseph Czereakaviczius of Ottawa has a charge of no valid driver’s license after a traffic stop Saturday night by LaSalle County Deputies at U.S. 34 and East 20th Road in Adams Township. He was taken to the LaSalle County Jail and later released with a court date.

A West Brooklyn man has a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after being stopped by Mendota Police just after 3:00 Sunday morning on Washington Street near Indiana Street. 34-year-old Jorge L. Maldonado Rodriquez was taken to the Mendota Police Department and later released with a notice to appear in court.

A 17-year-old male from Marseilles was in a single-vehicle car vs. deer accident with no injuries in Manlius Township at North 28th and East 2575th Roads.

A traffic stop by Mendota Police Sunday evening after 6:30 resulted in tickets for 41-year-old Enrique Valdez of Mendota. He was stopped near Meriden Street and Wisconsin Avenue and was ticked to no valid driver’s license.

Harold Thomas Vinyard, age 63, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19th, at Pleasant View in Ottawa. Visitation for Harold Thomas Vinyard will be today from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mueller Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold Thomas Vinyard will take place at St. Columba Catholic Church, at 10:30 am tomorrow burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Marquette Books Trip to State with 5-0 Win Over East Dubuque

the Marquette Crusaders are heading to the Class 1A state finals after a dominant 5-0 victory over East Dubuque in Rockford. Carson Zellers delivered a one-hit performance, throwing Marquette’s fourth consecutive shutout. This stellar pitching display secured the Crusaders’ place in the finals, set to be held at Dozer Field in Peoria on Friday at 10 a.m. WCMY will broadcast the game with Andrew Evola on the call. We will have a 9:45 pre-game and a 10 am first pitch on Friday.

St. Bede Goes Down Battling Against Annawan-Wethersfield

In a gripping showdown, St. Bede’s Bruins fell to the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans in the Class 1A championship game. The Bruins managed to tie the game in the third inning, only for the Titans to reclaim the lead with a run in their half of the inning. Despite their relentless effort, St. Bede couldn’t overcome the Titans, who went on to secure a 4-2 victory.

In a dramatic softball contest at the Wesleyan Supersectional, Serena led Villa Grove into the sixth inning. However, Villa Grove staged a comeback, eventually seizing a 5-2 victory in the eighth inning. Serena’s promising start was overturned in extra innings, sending Villa Grove to the next round.

White Sox Drop Opener Against Jays

The White Sox are on a six-game losing streak following a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Guaranteed Rate Field. Chicago out-hit Toronto 10-6, but the Sox were one-for-seven with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Gavin Sheets had a solo home run in the losing effort, and Nick Nastrini was charged with his fourth loss after surrendering three runs on three hits in five innings. The White Sox are still in last place in the AL Central at 15-and-40. Mike Clevinger starts for the Southsiders against the Blue Jays tonight.

Cubs Fall To Brewers

Craig Counsell’s homecoming in Milwaukee was spoiled as the Cubs lost to the Brewers 5-1 at American Family Field. The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the eighth inning before the Brewers plated five runs to put the game away. Patrick Wisdom drove in Chicago’s only run in the top of the ninth, while Mark Leiter Jr. was charged with his third loss out of the bullpen.  the Northsiders remain in second place in the NL Central at 27-and-27. Ben Brown takes the mound for Chicago against Milwaukee this evening.

The Bears begin their second week of OTAs from Halas Hall today. Chicago has three practice sessions this week. The Bears will also be on the field tomorrow and Friday before starting mandatory minicamp next week.

The Chicago Sky will try to get back in the win column when they take on the Seattle Storm at Wintrust Arena tonight.  Chicago’s coming off an 86-82 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Saturday. The Sky are off to a 2-and-2 start this season.  Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00 PM.

Illinois Makes NCAA Baseball Tournament

The Illinois Fighting Illini are back in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Illini were awarded the number-three seed in the Lexington Regional yesterday after finishing the season with a 34-and-19 record. Illinois will go up against Indiana State on Friday night, and they’ll have at least one other game over the weekend.
