USPS To Bring More Mail Processing To St. Louis

By WCMY News May 9, 2024 | 10:46 AM

The United States Postal Service in St. Louis will soon be processing a lot more mail. The service is moving forward with plans to shift area mail sorting from Springfield, Illinois to the St. Louis distribution center. The change means a letter mailed in Springfield to a resident of the capital city would be sent to St. Louis before being shipped back for a local mail carrier to deliver. Illinois’ State Comptroller Susan Mendoza says the decision to close the Springfield center leaves Illinois’ state capital without a distribution site for state payments. She also argues that the St. Louis center has continued to struggle with handling its own mail volume. Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski also has filed a resolution to prevent the changes.
