Dustin Farrell, 41, of Ottawa

Dustin Farrell, 41, of Ottawa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 19, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor John Walker officiating. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Ottawa Lions Club. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.

Dustin was born March 18, 1983, in La Salle, IL, to James and Kimberly (Newell) Farrell.

Dustin loved to paint, he was known as the Irish painter, he found peace anytime he was working, it was his escape. He enjoyed traveling to different states for work and always found friends every place he went. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and especially morel mushroom hunting. He definitely preferred the summer so he could be outdoors. He also adored animals. He always took care of the feral cats in the neighborhood and loved his sister’s dog, Dolly and cat, Milly. He was always a jokester too, he could convince you to believe anything. He was always making videos and loved to make others laugh and he always had a smile on his face. He was also great at giving advice. When he was home, he loved food. He enjoyed barbecuing and cooking on the Blackstone. He adored his nephews and always enjoyed spending time with them. He especially enjoyed spending time with his niece playing Yahtzee.

He is survived by his mother, Kim (Bob) Kolesar; his daughter, Camryn Farrell; his siblings, Courtney (Brandon) Thompson, Andrew Skul, and Katlynn Kolesar; and his nieces and nephews, Heaven-Lee, Kaiden, Brandon Jr., and Bryler; as well as his beloved pets.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Farrell; his grandparents, Janet Newell, Francis Newell, Donna Mumper, and Glenn “Toe Head” Farrell; and his niece, Brayleigh Bassett.

Memorials may be directed to Pet Project, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or to the family.
