NYC Considering Rat Birth Control

By WCMY News Apr 12, 2024 | 6:43 AM

(New York, NY) — New York City is considering rodent birth control in its continuing War on Rats. The New York Times reports the City Council is introducing legislation that calls for the distribution of salty pellets that sterilize both male and female rats. Two neighborhoods would be targeted under a pilot program. The city has unsuccessfully tried similar methods in the past but wants to give it another shot due to improvements in the city’s handling of garbage, as well as advancements in rat contraceptives. If it works, the city wouldn’t rely so much on rat poison, which is partially blamed for the death of beloved Central Park owl Flaco. WCMY has reached out for a comment from the leader of the Rats of New York City on this proposed attempt to control its population, we are still waiting on a follow-up response…..Happy Friday everyone!
