Lyndle “Lindy” Ator Jr., 76, of Morris

Lyndle “Lindy” Ator Jr., 76, of Morris, IL, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, at Morris Hospital.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 29, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will follow at 3:00 pm. Private burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca.

Lindy was born June 23, 1947, in Ottawa, IL, to Lyndle and Shirley (McNanna) Ator Sr.

He was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the United States Army. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, especially the Cubs and Bears. He enjoyed fishing and was an animal lover at heart. He liked taking road trips and thoroughly enjoyed his daily routine of coming to get the paper in Ottawa. He worked for Dupont, Union Carbide, Bimet, and later the Macy’s warehouse before his retirement at age 65. In his free time, he enjoyed drinking a cold beer smoking a cigar, and cooking out. He was a member of the Ottawa American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by partner, Sandy Owens; his children, Scott (Amie) Ator, Mike (Kim) Ator, and Christie (Randall) Mercer; his grandchildren, James Ator, Jake Kish, Austin and Cameron Hatcher, Alex Ator, Sierra (Dustin) Bennett, and Kara Mercer; his great-grandchildren, Rosemary Joy Bennett and Theo Ator; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyndle Sr. and Shirley; his wife, Valerie; and his brother, Reginald “Reggie” Ator.
