(Springfield, IL) — Almost 29 million dollars in federal funding are on their way to provide free locally-produced foods for vulnerable communities. Governor J.B. Pritzker says the food is bought through a partnership between the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the state’s Department of Human Services. The state is able to buy food directly from socially disadvantaged farmers. The food is then distributed through local food pantries and other nonprofits to local communities at no cost.
