(Springfield, IL) — A once-in-a-lifetime emergence of two broods of cicadas will make for an especially noisy spring — and some areas of Illinois will be hit harder than others. Researchers say in some areas of central Illinois around Springfield, it’s likely the two different types of cicadas will overlap and result in a lot of cicadas. They say this dual emergence has not happened in centuries.
