(Springfield, IL) — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has announced his support of a bill pending in the state General Assembly that would require greater transparency among lobbyists. Giannoulias says the bills are especially important following the sentencing of a former aide to State Representative Mike Madigan. Currently, he says his office has no enforcement mechanism for lobbyists who do not comply with reporting requirements. The proposed law would allow his office to investigate reports of non-compliance and either suspend or revoke a lobbyist’s license.
