Noel J. “Butch” Lietz, 81, of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with Chaplain Michael Driscoll, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the funeral home and 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday before the service at the funeral home.
Noel was born on October 23, 1942 in Ottawa to Noel C. and Ruby R. (Mennie) Lietz. He worked as a machinist for Caterpillar for 37 years. Noel married Sheila K. King on July 25, 1970 at St. Patrick Church in Ottawa. He was a member of the Starved Rock Kennel Club for 38 years. Noel loved hunting, drag racing, raising show dogs, being a father, grand dad, and great-grand dad.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila (King) Lietz, of Ottawa; two daughters, Nicole Fredericksen of Streator and Michelle (Chris) Longman of Rockton; seven grandchildren, Vincent (Cheyenne) Lietz of Ottawa, Sydney (Kyle) Beyer of Ottawa, Makenzie Beyer of Chicago, Phillip (Alexus) Smith II of San Antonio, TX, Alxyandria (Michael) Smith of Destin, FL, and Samantha and Nikolaus Longman, of Rockton; six great-grandchildren, Michael Lietz, Willow Lietz, Zeke Lietz, Addison Smith, Ryder, Lily, and two more great-grandchildren on the way; a sister, Susan Blythe of Ottawa; several nieces and nephews, including Tom (Kerri) Blythe, Tim Blythe and Lisa (Rob) Snook; a brother-in-law, Michael King of Woodruff, WI; two close friends, Eric Nakaerts, and John Dale Harris, and his loyal canine companions, Cheena, Koda, and Ken-ji.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Ruby Lietz; two sons-in-law, Rocky Smith and Corey Fredericksen; and brother-in-law, William Blythe.
