William F. (Bill) Kasten, 90, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Friday, December 22nd, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Senior Living in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born on June 2, 1933, the son of John and Angela (Pfeffer) Kasten in Ottawa, Illinois. Visitation will take place at St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bowan Schmitt officiating.
Bill is survived by a brother Francis (Joanne) Kasten, Seneca; a sister Elaine Paulus, Sugar Grove; sister-in-laws Diane Kasten, Clovis, California; Sharon (Kasten) Brady, Kansas City, Missouri and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Gerald Kasten.
Bill was one of the founding members of the current Seneca Regional Port District. He had a degree in Mortuary Science and was a Funeral Director at the Pfeffer Funeral Home in Seneca for several years working with his grandfather and uncle. He was also employed at the Pfeffer Furniture in Seneca. He was Superintendent with Continental Grain in St. Louis, Missouri, and Manager at J&S Tool in Joplin, Missouri until his retirement. He was a fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. While living in Seneca, Bill served on several committees for the improvement of the community, which included not only the Port District but was very active in the Civic Association.
Bill served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, receiving an honorable discharge. Bill always had his heart in Seneca, asking for updates on what was new in the community.
