(Colorado Springs, CO) — For one day each year, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, better known as NORAD, adds a special mission: tracking Santa Claus. General Glen VanHerck is NORAD’s Commander and says the annual Santa Tracker began purely by accident in 1955 when a wrong phone number was published on a department store flyer.

Now, volunteers typically answer more than 130-thousand calls from children across the globe. You can watch Santa’s progress around the world at NORAD Santa dot org.
