Richard “Rick” Lyle Strobel, 69, of Ottawa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.Visitation will be on Saturday, December 9, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.Rick was born February 20, 1954, in Ottawa, IL, to Lyle and Laura (Passini) Strobel. From a young age, he ran the streets of Naplate spending much of his time helping at the Feed Store and his grandma Lena’s Bar and Restaurant. Rick attended Ottawa High School and then became a Local 393 Laborer. He worked the majority of his life as a commercial diver and was a supervisor at LaSalle Lake Cooling Station. After he retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved traveling to Florida to visit his grandchildren, having family dinners with his kids, and playing poker with his friends. He was a caretaker at heart and loved cooking for his friends and family, with soup being his specialty. He was particularly good at laundry and was known for hand-washing delicates and removing challenging stains.Rick was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish, mushroom hunt, and just spend time outside. He was always willing to help and would give whatever he had to those in need. Rick always had a story to tell or wisdom to pass along to his children, grandchildren, and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.He is survived by his children, Sydney (Christian) Santoy and Savannah (Eddie Hettel) Strobel; his daughter-in-law, Molly (Dan) Strobel-Lowrey; his grandchildren, Sophia and Stone Strobel and Aylah Santoy; his cousin, Sherri Peltier; as well as numerous friends who felt like family.He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Chris Strobel; and his uncle, Richard “Putts” Passini.Memorials may be directed to the family.The online guest book may be viewed and remembrances shared at www.ottawafuneralhome.comOttawa Funeral Home & Crematory1111 LaSalle St, Ottawa Illinois 61350815-433-0300www.ottawafuneralhome.com
