On Monday a little after 10:00 pm 74-year-old Marc Young of Galesburg was struck by 19-year-old Ryan Mann of Springfield at East 24th Road and North 30th Road just south of I80 north of Marseilles. Ryan was cited for failure to reduce speed/accident.

 On Thanksgiving day at 1 am LaSalle County Deputies stopped 31-year-old Kierra Henning of Bettendorf at RT 18 & E 15th RD. Henning was cited for speeding 73 mph in a 55 mph zone, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlawful use of an electronic communication device, and was arrested for DWLS. She was later released with a Notice to Appear.

 On Thanksgiving at 3:00 am LaSalle County Deputies charged 21-year-old Cheyenna Prat of Streator at Route 23 and North 2525th road in South Ottawa. After an investigation, it was determined Prat was in possession of cocaine and methamphetamine. She was transported to LASCO Jail and later released with a Notice to appear.

 On Thanksgiving, just before 6 pm, LaSalle County Deputies investigated a car Vs deer accident with no injuries. 41-year-old Anthony Showen of Spring Valley was driving on Route 71 near East 494th road near Lowell. He was unable to avoid the deer. Anthony was cited for driving with a suspended registration.

26-year-old Shyanne Downer of Ottawa was charged by Ottawa police Tuesday with driving on a suspended license at Lafayette and La Salle. She was given a notice to appear.

The site forever surrounded by a chain link fence on Main Street in Ottawa affectionately or not known as “the hole in the ground” between a gift boutique and a supply store at 200 West Main will finally be an active construction site. Mayor Rob Hasty said on the Jay LeSeure show Wednesday that the first order of business was sorting out the downtown TIF fund that helps finance construction. The city had to agree Tuesday night on restructuring the downtown TIF agreement and extend it another 10 years.

The basement was poured on Wednesday. The Mayor said the second floor will be the owner’s residence and the first floor will be retail.

The Festival of Lights Holiday parade tradition will take place in downtown Ottawa, IL at 6 PM Friday, November 24, and the parade route will be from Jackson Street, running south on LaSalle Street, and end at the Jordan Block with Lighting of the Parks. Fireworks to follow.

Make sure to have a donation on hand, 8 to 12 volunteers from the Sunrise Rotary Club of Ottawa will have a float in the parade just to collect books and toys for kids aged from toddler to 12 years old.

Keep them unwrapped and unopened, please. Everything collected goes to the Salvation Army for parents to collect for Christmas.

Sandy Robinson of Sunrise says since this has started they’ve collected over 16,600 toys and 7700 books.

If you miss the parade, you can also drop gifts and books off at Blains the next morning or at Heritage Harbor on Saturday evening.

Thomas G. Williams, age 67, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, November 18th, with his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, the 25th, at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, LaSalle. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM today at the funeral home.

Carol Ann (Twait) Cook, 83, of Ottawa, passed away on November 21st, at Pleasant View Lutheran Home. Visitation will be held Monday, November 27th, at Ottawa Funeral Home and Crematory from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A memorial ceremony will follow at 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

The Bears are dealing with some injuries ahead of their Monday Night Football game against the Vikings. Guard Larry Borom, running back D’Onta Foreman, offensive lineman Lucas Patrick, and linebacker Noah Sewell all missed practice with injuries yesterday. Running back Khari Blasingame was a full participant despite dealing with an injured should. Monday’s game kicks off at 7:15 PM.
