On Saturday, Heritage Harbor held its 6th annual 5k parkrun.  At promptly 9:00 am two dozen enthusiastic runners gathered at the central harbor. The waterfront resort started the day with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem for Veterans Day. It had perfect weather and an international feel as well with guests on hand from Canada and South Africa.

Parkrun is a global movement organized back in England to promote fitness and an active healthy lifestyle.

Jacob Valley, the resort community director said the parkrun started at Heritage Harbor in 2017. A walk and or run happens every Saturday and this week marked the first time it took place on a fully paved harbor walk from start to finish.

Parkrun is open to not just the heritage harbor residents but goes out of its way to be open to all especially Ottawans.

Tammy Barry vice president of sales and marketing was on hand and ran. She said that Heritage Harbor lays claim to being the first parkrun in Illinois. She stressed the community bonding aspect of the run as well as fitness.

If you’d like to be healthy, The parkrun is free and happens every week at Heritage Harbor. You can register for free at “heritage harbor parkrun” facebook page.

Barry said Heritage Harbor is about 30% complete. The resort has constructed 200 homes so far including condos already of an estimated 550 homes.
