Streator Police were called to Kimes Elementary at 1207 Reading Street Wednesday morning at about 7:50 a.m. about a possible intruder wielding an axe handle. Police said by 8:15 a.m. the 30-year-old male, who was “no stranger” to police, was cooperative and just passing by the school headed towards a wooded area. Police contacted Kimes Elementary whose staff immediately acted according to their training and locked down the school. Kimes Director of School Safety, Jordan Risley said no students were yet present so it was a staff-only lockdown. No staff ever encountered the man walking near the school with an axe. Police interviewed the suspect and no arrest was made.

A scene out of an action movie happened for real in downtown Ottawa at about 10 am this morning. Ottawa police gave chase to a black Ford Focus with two occupants down Columbus Street where it took a right on Norris Drive. Grundy County deputies took up the pursuit on Route 6. The chase wound up on I-80 where the Focus took the Route 47 exit and went south to Morris at high speeds. Stop sticks were employed that blew three tires on the Focus near Gun Club Road east of Morris.
Both occupants were taken into custody without further incident. They were wanted for questioning regarding several thefts. A pitbull dog was also in the vehicle and turned over to Grundy County Animal Control.

42-year-old Clinton R Munson of Naplate was charged with possession of
