Streator Police were called to Kimes Elementary at 1207 Reading Street this (Wednesday) morning about 7:50 am. about a possible intruder wielding an axe handle.
Police said by 8:15 a.m. the 30-year-old male, who was “no stranger” to police, was cooperative and just passing by the school headed towards a wooded area.
Police contacted Kimes Elementary whose staff immediately acted according to their training and locked down the school. Kimes Director of School Safety, Jordan Risley said no students were yet present, so it was a staff-only lockdown. No staff ever encountered the man walking near the school with an axe. Police interviewed the suspect, and no arrest was made.
