Sunday evening at 8:21 pm, the driver of a 2004 Lexxus sedan lost control of their vehicle on Cemetery Road just west of Tabler road east of Morris. The car struck a tree on the passenger side which resulted in the death of 16-year-old passenger Giovanni Lara. The driver of the vehicle survived with non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at Morris Hospital.
Grundy County Deputy Chief Paul Clampitt says the accident will be reconstructed by an accident reconstructionist to determine if it was the result of speed. Road conditions were dry and the Sheriff’s office does believe speed played a part in the crash.
Morris Fire had to extricate Lara from the vehicle with a jaws-of-life extractor.
