Rhythm of Our Youth heart screenings coming to Ottawa High School Nov 2 and 3

By WCMY News Oct 26, 2023 | 2:12 PM

On Thursday and Friday of next week, a team from Morris Hospital will perform free electrocardiogram screenings for Ottawa High School students who wish to participate. They must also have their parent’s approval. An electrocardiogram is a non-invasive, painless test that measures the electrical activity and detects heart abnormalities that can lead to sudden cardiac death. It’s called Rhythm of Our Youth cardiac screening and it’s coming to Ottawa H.S. on November 2 and 3 during the school day. Rhythm of Our Youth was first launched in 2016 as a result of funding provided by donors to the Morris Hospital Foundation. Since then, over 8,000 area high school students have been screened through the program. The test takes about three minutes to complete. Sudden cardiac death claims more than 2,000 lives of children and adolescents in the United States each year. Most victims have had underlying heart conditions that could have been detected through a simple electrocardiogram screening. For more information visit morrishospital dot org.
