Exterior improvements to the Peru fire station and the Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch (IVRD) building will soon be underway along 4th and West Streets. The Peru City Council has approved a bid of $449,700 from Lite Construction in Montgomery.

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning, noted that the city had been discussing the renovation project for several months. IVRD is located in the over 60-year-old police department building.

Carls said the city had received four bids ranging from the low bid of $449,700 to $630,000. The low bid was $23,305.50 under an architect’s estimate of $473,005.50.

Carls said project funds would come from the General Fund account over a two-year fiscal period. The city has already budgeted $275,000 for 2023 and will work on an agreement for 2024.

Peru Fire Chief Jeff King said plans include tuck-pointing the fire station and adding a new roof. Lite Construction will remove doors, windows, and the roof and masonry repairs. Carls plans to move quickly on the contracts so the company can start the roofing work as soon as possible.
