There’s no update following the discovery of a body in a narrow alley between Sterling Avenue and Laura Street in Streator around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday. Streator Police Chief John Franklin says 30-year-old Joshua Salters was shot several times sometime during the early hours of Wednesday. Chief Franklin says investigation results were scarce as of midday Wednesday, but forensic evidence was being collected from the scene. A cell phone believed to be Salters’ was found at the scene. The La County Sheriff’s Office and La Salle County State’s Attorney are working with Streator police on the ongoing investigation.

During last night’s Marseilles City Council meeting, Mayor Jim Hollenbeck pointed out that Clean-Up Days are today and tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until Noon at the Marseilles City Garage on Commercial Street. Proof of being a Marseilles resident will be required and each household is limited to a maximum of two utility trailers. Large appliances need to have the doors removed. No yard waste will be accepted, nor any household garbage. Also on the unacceptable list are paint, chemicals, electronic items, and tires.

The City of La Salle wants to hear from residents and visitors during a survey period going on now. After several community planning meetings, La Salle has created a brief survey to guide city interests over ten years. The survey form can be picked up at LaSalle City Hall and is also online at go-dot-Illinois-dot e-d-u-slash-LaSalle-survey.

A Prescription Drug Take Back event is happening at Streator City Park on Saturday, October 28th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at drive-thru disposal. Drop off expired or unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and syringes in sealed containers with labels removed. Medications flushed or thrown away can contaminate water supplies.

Utility customers across Illinois could soon see an increase in their natural gas bills. Administrative judges at the Illinois Commerce Commission have recommended rate increases for the four gas companies. They include Ameren Illinois, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas, and North Shore Gas. The commission itself

must still discuss the rate hikes. If approved, the increases will go into effect in January.

A deadline is coming up for Illinois small business owners to offer their retirement programs or to facilitate the state’s Secure Choice program. That’s a new system in which workers direct their investments in an individual savings account. The final deadline for companies that have five to 15 employees to comply is November 1st. Employers who don’t go with the new savings program will be subject to fines and penalties of 250 dollars per employee in the first year and 500 dollars per employee in year two.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is being awarded a 250-thousand-dollar grant for a project to teach children about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The funds come from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. They will pay about half the cost of “Citizen City,” an interactive exhibit that will explore the idea that citizenship is a verb and requires action.

Governor Pritzker is launching a national nonprofit group designed to protect and expand abortion rights in other states. Think Big America’s stated goal is to fight against right-wing extremism. The governor says the group will build on the progress his administration has made in Illinois. Pritzker has already provided an undisclosed amount of initial funding for the new organization.

Archer-Daniels-Midland Company is being cited over an April explosion at its West Plant in Decatur. The U.S. Department of Labor found ADM failed to inspect and test safety systems, which led to the April 20th blast that injured three employees. OSHA cited the company for two health and safety violations and proposed a fine of more than 324-thousand dollars in penalties related to the explosion at the West Plant.

Friday night at 8:15, La Salle County Deputies investigated two single-vehicle car versus deer accidents with no injuries near Illinois 251 and North 36th Road

in Dimmick Township. 38-year-old Adam Holdenrid was driving south on 251 when a deer entered the roadway. At the same, 53-year-old Mitchell Landgraf of Mendota was driving north on 251 when he drove over the deer’s carcass, causing damage to his vehicle.

An Aurora man is charged by LaSalle County Deputies with speeding after a stop Tuesday night near Illinois 71 and North 35th Road. 24-year-old Villeda Pinon of Aurora was clocked doing 79 miles per hour in a 55-mile zone.

A 35-year-old Peru man is charged with driving a vehicle with suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Brian Robinson was stopped by Peru Police Tuesday afternoon at Shooting Park Road and Marquette Road.

34-year-old Amy Slupianek of Oglesby was stopped by Peru Police Tuesday morning at May Road and Illinois 251 and now faces a charge of driving a vehicle with a suspended registration.

Burial will follow the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL with Full Military Honors.

Patricia A. Perrot, 93, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, September 27th, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL.

(Lake Forest, IL) — Justin Fields’ status for this Sunday remains in the air after the Bear’s first injury report of Week Seven. Fields did not participate in practice yesterday as he continues to heal his dislocated thumb. Running back Roschon Johnson, offensive lineman Nate Davis, and defensive back Terell Smith also missed practice with injuries yesterday. Five other players were limited participants. The Bears go for their second win of the season when they take on the Raiders at home on Sunday.

(Chicago, IL) — A handful of Cubs and White Sox players have a chance at winning a Gold Glove Award next month. The MLB released three finalists for each position yesterday. Luis Robert Jr. was the only Southsider nominated for the award. Robert is going up against Kevin Kiermaier and Julio Rodriguez for the American League Center Field Award. He previously won a Gold Glove during his rookie season in 2020. Nico Hoerner is a second base finalist for the Cubs, Dansby Swanson is looking for his second straight Gold Glove at shortstop, and Ian Happ is up for his second win in left field. The winners will be revealed on November 5th.
