Illinois State Police have no new information this morning on social media regarding a fatal shooting just before 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Flying J Travel Plaza at Illinois 351 and I-80. ISP says an unidentified woman was shot and killed following what was a domestic dispute. An Illinois State Emergency Radio Network bulletin Thursday night said the suspect had fled the scene in a blue Hyundai Tucson.

The Illinois Department on Aging is providing Medicare counseling during the open enrollment period. Open enrollment begins on Sunday for older adults looking to make changes to their Medicare coverage. It runs through December 7th. Enrollees can receive one-on-one counseling and assistance through the IDoA’s Senior Health Insurance Program. The counseling is free to people with Medicare, their family members, and caregivers.

Chicago isn’t expected to receive any more state funding for the rest of the year for the migrant crisis. House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch told reporters the city won’t see a grant in the fall veto session. As a result, Chicago won’t likely be receiving any more financial help until legislators reconvene in the spring. Both Welch and Governor Pritzker have called on the federal government to provide more support for asylum-seekers in Chicago.

Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln is set to close at the end of the 2023-24 academic year. In addition, Lincoln Christian Seminary will be acquired by Ozark Christian College in Missouri. Under the acquisition, Ozark could take on LCU’s assets and liabilities. The purchase requires approval from the boards of both schools.

The Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology is launching a paid trainee program to strengthen the state’s workforce. The program is designed to build a pipeline of tech talent to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals and diversify the DoIT’s workforce. City Colleges of Chicago and Lincoln Land Community College in Mattoon will host training sites while participants receive a minimum yearly salary of 54 thousand dollars while pursuing tracks in one of

five high-need concentration areas. Those include cybersecurity, networking, coding and database, end-user computing, and enterprise infrastructure.

A couple of car versus deer accidents were handled by LaSalle County Deputies. Sunday morning 45-year-old James McVey, Junior, struck a deer on North 2150th Road near East 12th Road in Farm Ridge Township. Monday night, 38-year-old Shannon Hillyer of Cedar Point was unable to avoid a deer in the roadway on Illinois 71 near East 875th Road in Deer Park Township.

Thursday evening LaSalle County Deputies charged 72-year-old Patricia Farley of Sandwich with failure to yield one full lane to construction workers after a traffic stop in Adams Township at U.S. 34 and East 22nd Road. She was released with a notice to appear in court.

62-year-old David Querciagrossa of Ottawa faces a charge of domestic battery following an incident in the 600 block of Illinois Avenue on Wednesday. He was taken to the LaSalle County Jail.

The Ottawa Fire Department had a call to 832 Kimberly Lane on the southside for a dishwasher that was sparking. There was no fire. The breaker going to the dishwasher appeared to be tripped.

Northern Illinois University in DeKalb is the new home of the Illinois High School E-Sports Association. Beginning this school year, NIU will host championship tournaments for the association’s competitive video game leagues. NIU E-Sports and the IHSEA expect to welcome up to 900 high school esports student-athletes, 150 teachers and coaches, and the students’ families to campus during the e-sports season.

Joan Elaine Graves (Lindquist) was born in Rockford. Will have a celebration of life on Saturday, October 14th at 11 AM at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave, Sycamore. Visitation will be on Friday, October 13th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at DeFiore Funeral Home in Huntley, and one hour before the celebration service.

Lois J. (Breyer) Rowe, 94, of Ottawa, passed away on October 6th, at her home. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on October 14th at Grace Baptist Church in Ottawa. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

(Chicago, IL) — The two worst teams in the NFC North go head-to-head when the Bears host the Vikings at Soldier Field on Sunday. The 1-and-4 Bears earned their first win last Thursday. Chicago beat Washington 40-20 as Justin Fields impressed for the second week in a row. Fields has thrown four touchdown passes in each of his last two games, and DJ Moore has become a reliable target for the third-year quarterback. Moore caught eight passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in Week Five, and he became the first Bears receiver since Marcus Robinson in 1999 to win the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award. The Bears have lost their last four games against Minnesota. Five Chicago players missed practice with injuries yesterday, including three running backs. Sunday’s game kicks off at noon.

(Montreal, QC) — The Blackhawks will try to get back in the win column when they visit the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre tomorrow. The Blackhawks are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. First-overall draft pick Connor Bedard scored his first NHL goal during the losing effort. >>Bulls Take Down Nuggets In Preseason

(Chicago, IL) — The Bulls earned their first preseason victory with a 133-124 double-overtime victory against the Denver Nuggets at United Center yesterday. The Bulls had a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Denver tied the game as time expired to send the game to an extra period. After both teams scored seven points in the first OT, Chicago outscored Denver 14-5 in the second overtime. DeMar DeRozan led Chicago with 19 points, while Zach LaVine chipped in with 17. The Bulls improved to 1-and-1 in exhibition play. They play Denver again on Sunday.

(South Bend, IN) — The top non-conference rivalry in college football takes center stage when number-21 Notre Dame hosts number-nine USC at Notre Dame Stadium tomorrow night. Notre Dame is coming off a 33-20 loss against number 15 Louisville last weekend. The Irish are 5-and-2 in 2023. Notre Dame lost to USC last year, but the Irish haven’t lost in South Bend since 2011. (College Park, MD) — The Illinois Fighting Illini will try to avoid their third straight loss when they visit Maryland at SECU Stadium tomorrow. Illinois lost to Nebraska 20-7 last Friday night.
