OVERNIGHT RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY ARREST
Shortly after midnight on October 10th, Streator Police Officers responded to the 200 block of Pleasant Ave. to a simulcast of a Residential Burglary that had just occurred. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the homeowners/victims; the couple provided a description of a man they had discovered inside of their home. When the couple confronted the offender, he fled the home through the rear door. It was later discovered that the offender had entered the home through a patio door. After the offender fled, the couple noted that he had apparently stolen the purse of one of the occupants, which contained various credit cards. The victims provided a description of the intruder and stated that he appeared to be walking towards Bridge St. A flash message was sent to other Streator units, providing a description and direction of flight of the burglary suspect. Another Streator officer observed a male subject on Bridge St. and alerted the officer on the scene of the crime. This lone male subject, who matched the initial description provided by the victims, was stopped and detained; a pat down of his person revealed several credit cards with the female victim’s name on them, along with her driver’s license. This subject had been detained approximately one block away from where the burglary had occurred. Since the detained subject had been quickly detained only minutes after officers had arrived at the location of the burglary, a ‘show up’ was conducted; the victims positively identified the detained subject as the male they had observed in their home before he had fled. The detainee, Marvin P. Martin, age 50, was advised of his rights and transported to the Streator Police Department, where he was processed according to current procedures, charged with Residential Burglary, a Class 1 Felony, and then transported to the LaSalle County Jail for a detainment hearing.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
