Shortly after midnight, Oct. 10, Streator Police Officers responded to a simulcast (radio) call in the 200 block of Pleasant Ave. about a residential burglary that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the homeowners and got a description of a man they had discovered inside their home. When confronted by the couple, the man fled the house through the rear door but had entered the home through a patio door.

After the burglar escaped, the couple found he had stolen a purse belonging to one of the occupants, containing various credit cards and her driver’s license. The couple described the intruder and told officers he had appeared to be walking toward Bridge St.

After receiving a flash message, an officer saw a male on Bridge St. that matched the victim’s description, only a block from the burglarized home. He then alerted the crime scene officers.

Officers conducted a pat down and found several credit cards with the female victim’s name on them, along with her driver’s license.

A ‘show-up’ was conducted, and the victims positively identified the man as the person they had observed in their home before his escape.

Marvin P. Martin, 50, was advised of his rights and transported to the Streator Police Department. Martin was processed according to current procedures, charged with Residential Burglary, a Class 1 Felony, and transported to the La Salle County Jail for a detainment hearing.

Police Chief John Franklin was proud of his officers and how quickly they responded.

“I think the officers did an excellent job,” Franklin said. “Shift Commander Jason Moore and his team quickly resolved the crime, and that’s a credit to our department.”
