California Costco worker John Sotelo had a goal – he wanted to become ‘Employee of the Month.’ So, he was working hard through August to accomplish it.
There is now a plaque hanging on the store’s wall, and it all happened because of a surprising discovery on a typical workday…
In late August, Sotelo started his day at the Costco store on the corners of Shaw and Clovis Avenue in Clovis, California.
He was putting away cases of bottled water when he saw something on one of the pallets that caught his eye – it looked like an envelope. He opened it since he didn’t know who it belonged to or why it was even there. To his surprise, the envelope contained $3,940.
He could have been dishonest, but he wasn’t. He immediately notified his managers. Sotelo and his supervisors found the Costco member who misplaced the envelope using surveillance footage and her member ID.
“It was crazy because when my manager walked me outside and the member was right there. She was shaking my hand for like a good 20 seconds. So, I’m like dang,” Sotelo said in a video interview with KFSN ABC News 30. “So yeah, she told me like, ‘Oh, you know, I’m so glad you found this. That’s for my kids to go to school.’ I’m like, ‘Okay,’ you know, ‘well I’m happy to help.’
And that’s today’s good news.
