Reinhold Koestler

1930 – 2023

Reinhold Koestler, 93, of Ottawa, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 13, 2023 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Nicolas Wilson, of the Ottawa Catholic Parishes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Reinhold was born in a small village to Edmund and Cecilie (Menzel) Koestler, in what was then Poland, and is now considered Western Ukraine. His family was displaced at the start of WWII and were refugees for the latter portion of the war. After the war Reinhold apprenticed as an upholsterer, a trade that he masterfully practiced for the next 60 years. His family migrated to Canada after the war, where he married his wife Amalia Keim, and where his son was born. In 1963 Reinhold moved his family to Royal Oak Michigan, where he lived until shortly after the passing of his wife in 2013. He relocated to Ottawa in 2014 to be closer to his son Ron. The last eight months of his life were spent at the LaSalle County Nursing Home. Reinhold’s family thanks the staff for the loving care they provided for the last months of his life.

He is survived by his son, Ronald (Susan) Koestler of Serena; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Sarah), Michael (Erin), and Elizabeth; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Amalia, a brother Bruno, and a sister Rosemary.

Memorials may be directed to the LaSalle County Nursing Home.
