The Ottawa PetSmart Distribution Center, 900 E. Stevenson Road, is expanding their facility. ClayCo Construction, Chicago, is beginning a 189,000 square-foot expansion. PetSmart opened Ottawa operations in 2005 with a 1 million square foot building.

The facility is being expanded because of increased business and to service additional retail outlets. The expansion project is estimated to take 6 months to complete.

“Ottawa is proud to have PetSmart in our city,” Ottawa Mayor Robb Hasty said. “We’re honored that they have chosen our city to expand their facility here.”

Richard Ellis, Richard Ellis, Senior Manager of DC Facilities, Maintenance and Capital Improvement, said PetSmart’s goal is to get their products to “pet parents” efficiently.

“The building expansion allows us to achieve that goal.” Ellis said.

The distribution employs 420 people, many who have helped with the human/pet water fountain installation at the city dog park and volunteered for local projects like the Starved Rock Cleanup project.
