Labor Day was busy for the Peru Police Department. The department participated in a state-wide enforcement campaign over the Labor Day Weekend: the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Drive High. Get a DUI” enforcement campaign.
The department made 3 DUI arrests, and 4 seat belt citations were written, one of which occurred during nighttime hours. 17 other citations and arrests were made.
Peru Police Department Spokesperson Lieutenant Doug Bernabei said the program made roads safer during the weekend holiday.
“Through the Labor Day enforcement effort, we helped to make our roads safer and remind motorists that impaired driving is not a game,” he said.
Federal highway safety funds distributed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) made the enforcement campaign possible.
