The Marseilles City Council is expected to pass a motion to explore moving out of the 100-year-old City Hall into a new location for city offices as well as the Marseilles Police Department. The Illinois Valley Cellular building at Riverfront Plaza is on the market and Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says in a news release the city is interested in purchasing the structure. The city has several financing options ranging from conventional loans to bonds or a USDA Loan.

Opening statements will begin today in the perjury trial for the longtime Chief of Staff of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. Timothy Mapes is charged with lying to a grand jury in the federal probe that led to Madigan’s indictment last year in a racketeering case. Mapes served as Madigan’s chief of staff from 1991 until June 2018, when he was ousted following allegations of harassment. Jurors were chosen yesterday and the trial is expected to last up to three weeks

Illinois is offering financial assistance to help strengthen mental health services in schools. The state is accepting grant applications from schools and agencies that support child and adolescent health for a share of ten million dollars in federal funding. The money is aimed to help schools and local agencies improve student care in areas such as workforce enhancements, developing frameworks to prevent adverse childhood experiences, interventions to assist children suffering from trauma, and training for medical and school staff to expand adolescent mental health resources.

State officials are gearing up for the start of the 2023 Illinois State Fair tomorrow. The fair runs from August 10th to the 20th in Springfield. Governor Pritzker will be unveiling the 2023 Illinois State Fair Butter Cow today at the fairgrounds. Organizers also announced new themes and discount days this year. County Fairs and Horse Racing Day will start it all off tomorrow. A new theme day “Twosday” will feature two-dollar admission for adults and seniors on August 15th.

The Illinois Department on Aging will be hosting a Senior Day at the State Fair next week. Adults age 60 and older will receive free admission to the Illinois State Fair on August 14th with special events for seniors and their families taking place in the Illinois Building throughout the day. The Illinois Building will open at 9 a.m. for older adults and their family members to visit with local vendors and exhibitors.

The personal data of thousands of patients of Lurie Children’s Surgical Foundation are the target of a recent data breach. Patients affected by the breach saw their Social Security numbers, names, birth dates, and addresses leaked from a third-party electronic billing provider. The breach took place between March 29th and April 14th of this year. An investigation is underway to find those responsible for the security breach.

43-year-old Marco Ignacio of Aurora faces a no valid driver’s license charge after a traffic stop Monday night by LaSalle County Deputies in Farm Ridge Township at Route 23 and North 21st Road. Ignacio was released with a notice to appear in court.

A 35-year-old Streator woman was stopped by LaSalle County Sheriff’s Deputies early Tuesday morning at Route 18 and East 11th Road in Richland Township. Tonia Torres-Magana was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and was released with a court date.

LaSalle County Deputies charged 35-year-old Kristofer LeBeau of Marseilles with driving 75 miles an hour and a 55-Zone near Route 23 and North 33rd Road in Dayton Township Tuesday morning.

A 17-year-old Streator woman was stopped Tuesday night by LaSalle County Deputies near Illinois Street and Lundy Street in Bruce Township and ticketed for driving without lights.

Mandy Kolls of Ottawa is charged with Retail Theft after being arrested at 604 West Main Street by Ottawa Police on Monday. Kolls was released on bond with a notice to appear.

A 40-year-old Creve Couer woman faces charges of no valid driver’s license, no insurance, and no registration. Crystal Hudson was pulled over by Ottawa Police at East Norris Drive and Post Street on Tuesday. Hudson posted a bond and was released with a court date.

A homeless Ottawa man, 44-year-old Christopher Leone, faces a charge of theft by Ottawa Police after being picked up in the 800 block of LaSalle Street on Tuesday.

40-year-old Ashley Turano of Ottawa was charged at the Ottawa Police Station Monday with Retail Theft. She posted bond and was released.

Dale V. Ott, 74 of Streator passed away Saturday evening (August 5, 2023) in Sturgis, S. Dakota.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 4 – 8 PM with the rosary recited at 7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wenona with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.

>>White Sox Lose To Yankees

(Chicago, IL) — The White Sox allowed 13 hits during a 7-1 loss to the New York Yankees at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox gave up four runs in the top of the fourth and trailed the rest of the way. Touki Toussaint was charged with his fifth loss after giving up four runs on six hits in five innings, while Luis Robert Jr. hit his 31st home run in the losing effort. 

The Southsiders are still in fourth place in the AL Central at 46-and-69. Mike Clevinger starts for the Sox against the Yankees tonight.

>>Tauchman’s Late Home Run Leads Cubs over Mets

(Queens, NY) — Mike Tauchman hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth to lead the Cubs to a 3-2 win over the New York Mets at Citi Field. Tauchman finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Cody Bellinger went deep for the 17th time this season. Jameson Taillon earned the win after seven strong innings on the mound. 

Adbert Alzolay recorded his 15th save as the Cubs improved to 59-and-55. They trail the Brewers by just a game and a half in the NL Central race. 

Kyle Hendricks starts for the Cubs against the Mets tonight.

>>Bears Make Minor Roster Moves

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Bears are switching out some pieces in their roster. 

The Bears claimed tight end Lachlan Pitts and linebacker Barrington Wade off waivers yesterday. Pitts went undrafted out of William and Mary in April, while Wade hasn’t appeared in a game since 2021, where he played in four games with the Broncos. The Bears cut kicker Andre Szmyt and tight end Jake Tonges in corresponding moves. Training camp for the Bears continues today.
