More DNA will be extracted from a hair that Defense Attorney’s for 84-year old Chester Weger say clear his name. The hair will be sent to a Texas-based forensic genetic genealogy testing company called Othram. Attorney Andy Hale says it could lead to who’s hair it is. He says genealogy testing has led to some arrests of cold cases like the Golden State killer. He also asked Judge Michael Jansz to allow him to test more hairs in glass slides for DNA profiles. He says if there is a DNA profile on some of them, that could prove that someone else killed three women at St. Louis Canyon at Starved Rock State Park 63-years ago. He says the argument is that one hair on one of the victims doesn’t count, so he wants more.

Hale also wants to test clothing. He says when Weger was interrogated, detectives asked if he urinated or defecated on the three women.

He says he could get a DNA profile from the clothing. Will County Prosecutors say they don’t want those items tested, but they don’t object to them being looked at for DNA profiles. Jansz set Weger’s next court date for September 1st. Weger has been trying to clear his name after he was convicted of the Starved Rock Murders. He says he was coerced to confess.
