Republican St. Sen. Sue Rezin says the Illinois Supreme Court’s ruling keeping the Illinois SAFE-T Act in it’s entirety disappointing. The court ruled 5-2 to keep the law as is and allow for cashless bail. The Morris representative says counties are now faced with implementing the hastily, dangerous, and ill-concieved law which will make the state less safe. She says while she understands the movement to reforem the cash bail system, there is a way to do that fairly while also better ensuring the public safety of our communities.

16th Distrct Cong. Darin LaHood says on Twitter that Illinois has become less safe and crime is on the rise. He says “Gov. Pritzker’s soft-on-crime policies, like ending cash bail, hinders cops from keeping communiteis safe. Oppenents like Rezin and LaHood say the no-cash bail system allows violent criminals to get out of jail easier. Supporters say the provision in the SAFE-T ACt allows poorer people, especially minorities, the chance to bail out of jail because they can’t ususally afford it. Cash bail will be eliminated on September 18th.
